Website speed optimisation

People leave before the page arrives

A slow site does not annoy people so much as lose them silently. They tap back before anything renders, and you never see the visit as an enquiry. You cannot tell the difference between nobody visiting and everybody leaving.

Google measures this directly through Core Web Vitals, so it costs you twice: fewer people stay, and you rank lower for the ones still searching.

What is usually wrong

Images straight from a camera. A four megabyte photo scaled down in the browser still downloads all four megabytes.

Render-blocking scripts. Third-party code loaded before the page is allowed to paint, so the visitor stares at nothing while it fetches.

Too many plugins. Each one adds requests, and most add features nobody uses.

Fonts that block text. The words exist but stay invisible until a font file finishes downloading.

What I actually do

Measure first, on a real phone connection rather than a desktop on fast internet. Then fix what the measurement blames: compress and resize images, defer or remove blocking scripts, set proper cache headers, and make the first paint happen without waiting on anything optional.

You get a before and after you can verify yourself. If the site needs more than speed work, a redesign may be the honest answer, and I will say so.
